RiderCoach® Instructors are the backbone of the Basic RiderCourse® training system. All RiderCoach (instructors) must complete an intensive Instructor Preparation Course prior to becoming an MSF Basic RiderCourse® Certified Instructor. Only MSF-certified RiderCoach Instructors teach courses at Motorcycle Training of Florida, Inc., located in Jacksonville, FL. We ask you to take a moment and meet the instructors of the Motorcycle Training of Florida, Inc., through their biographies.
LARRY E. SMITH
Larry has been in Law Enforcement for over 29 years and is currently assigned to the Florida Highway Patrol MotorSquad in Jacksonville. He has been with the MotorSquad since 1987, starting in Miami and then moving to Jacksonville in 1989. He is also a Police Motorcycle Instructor for the State of Florida, being certified through IPTM in 1990. He is the former owner/operator of Florida Motorcycle Training Inc., starting the company in 1995 and successfully operated it until 2003. Missing his enjoyment for teaching and motorcycles he established Motorcycle Training of Florida Inc. in 2006. Larry is also a National Certified RiderCoach (Instructor) with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) since 1995.
JEROD S. WILCOX
Jerod has served in the U.S. Navy for 17 years. Originally from Wyoming, he started his naval career in Virginia Beach, VA. and then transferred to Camp Pendelton, CA. After 3 years in California, the Navy moved him and his family to Naval Station Mayport in 1999 and then transferred again to NAS (Naval Air Station) Jacksonville and is currently stationed at HS-7 (Dusty Dogs) . He has been riding for 10 years. His love for riding led him to become Nationally Certified as a RiderCoach (Instructor) with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). Jerod is looking forward to training you for a safe and enjoyable motorcycle experience.
ROGER HUGGINS
Roger served over 31 years with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in various positions including 12 years with S.W.A.T., A Supervisor in the Traffic Division over the Drug Interdiction Unit and the DUI Unit. Roger has taught for the Institute of Police Technology & Management at UNF for over 12 years. In 1998 he started with the MSF curriculum. Roger currently holds certification including: MSF, Harley-Davidson Riders Edge, Police Motor Officer Instructor, GWRRA Trike School, Lee Park's Total Control and the Florida Rider Training Program. On a personal note he has been riding for 40+ years, enjoys riding the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Smokey mountains, out West, & Canada. He currently rides a Harley-Davidson Road Glide for pleasure & a Suzuki TL1000 on the track.
MIKE MONROE
Mike served over 31 years with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in various capcities including 5 years with the JSO Motorcyle Unit, and 3 years in the Traffic Division Speed Enforcement Unit. Mike has been certified for over 4 years with MSF.
JIM WOODFORD
Jim is retired from both the military and Information Technology. He started his career in the United States Marine Corps and finished twenty years later at the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Command in Washington, DC. Completing his BS in Information Systems Management, he started his Information Technology career, culminating as the Chief Technology Officer for Enterprise Consulting & Integration. He currently teaches Computer and Technology courses for a local University, but that is just a job issue…his real love is riding motorcycles. He started with a 125 cc two-stroke motorcycle in 1969, worked through a Yamaha 250cc BMX, a Honda CB-350, a Yamaha RS400, a Honda CB-450, and a CB-750 before he moved into the Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. The GL-1100, GL-1200, GL-1500, and now rides his 2003 GL-1800A. With 40 years of safe motorcycle riding experience, Jim is a genuine asset to the training cadre of Rider Coaches here at MTOFI.
